Outdoor Learning

At Daventry Hill School, we believe that learning happens everywhere — and some of the most meaningful experiences take place outside the classroom. That’s why we’re proud to have The Willows, our dedicated outdoor learning area, designed to support the unique needs and strengths of our pupils.

The Willows provides a safe, calm, and engaging environment where students can explore nature, develop new skills, and build confidence. Whether it’s through sensory play, nature walks, gardening, outdoor activities, or simply enjoying quiet time outdoors, every child is encouraged to connect with the natural world in a way that works for them.

Our outdoor learning programme supports:

  • Wellbeing and emotional regulation through time in nature
  • Physical development, motor skills, and movement
  • Communication and interaction in a less structured environment
  • Exploration and curiosity, encouraging independence and resilience
  • Real-life learning opportunities linked to the curriculum

Students from across the school have timetabled sessions in The Willows, ensuring regular access to high-quality outdoor learning. Sessions are carefully adapted to meet the age, stage, and individual needs of each child, making the experience meaningful and accessible for all.

We are passionate about helping children thrive through outdoor experiences — nurturing a sense of wonder, building self-esteem, and supporting their holistic development.
