We are committed to offering a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum which positively impacts our young people's next steps.
In Key Stage 4 and Post-16 we work hard to align our qualification routes with the young person's next steps.
Each student is assessed at the end of Year 8 to identify which qualification route is most suitable for them. This assessment is initially completed using National Council for Further Education (NCFE) Skills Builder software.
This is reviewed throughout to ensure they are on the most appropriate route.
Students can complete Functional skills accreditations in:
These can be achieved at the following levels:
These accreditations involve students sitting formal examinations.
Our exam board is the National Council for Further Education (NCFE).
Students can work towards awards in Life and Living Skills. This requires the students to complete a portfolio of work which provides evidence of their knowledge, understanding and skill.
There are a number of modules that can be offered. These are selected as appropriate for the individual.
A Level 1 BTEC Introductory qualification will be offered to those on the Level 1 qualification route.
This will involve completing a portfolio of evidence to meet the exam board criteria.
Our curriculum from Year 7 includes modules from The Kings Trust.
Throughout secondary, students will collect a portfolio of evidence against the objectives of different modules.
All students from Year 9 are given the opportunity to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. There are four sections to this award which students work towards within their curriculum:
In order to achieve the full Bronze award, students will have to take part in the expedition, which includes a night away camping. This will always be offered within the school week.
Students in Year 10 will have the opportunity to work towards and gain a Level 2 in Food Safety and Hygiene.
This involves completing an online assessment.
