We believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom, and that real-world experiences play a vital role in helping our students grow in confidence, independence and curiosity.
During the academic year, students take part in a number of school trips to enhance their classroom learning. In addition, they are offered the opportunity to participate in residentials.
We recognise the constraints that a school such as ours has on delivering extracurricular activities outside the school day, due to limitations imposed by a large percentage of students travelling to school on SEN transport. Therefore, we attempt to include as many opportunities to access activities through our Preparing for Adulthood curriculum so that students do not lose out.
Every student will have the opportunity to take part in at least one major class trip each year. These trips are carefully planned to meet the individual needs of our pupils and to ensure that every child can access and benefit from the experience, whatever their abilities or interests.
We aim to give families as much notice as possible for all trips and are committed to keeping costs as low as we can. Flexible payment plans are available to support families, and we encourage parents and carers to get in touch with us if they have any questions or need further information.
If you'd like to discuss trip arrangements or financial support, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.
Our residential programme is a key part of school life and is designed to grow with our students—offering sequential, age-appropriate experiences that promote independence, resilience, and personal development at every stage.
Each trip is carefully planned to meet the needs of our students, while giving them the chance to explore new places, try new activities, and build confidence in a supportive way.
We are proud of the way these trips support our students’ development over time. All residentials are fully risk-assessed and led by experienced staff, with individual needs at the centre of our planning. We aim to keep costs as low as possible, and flexible payment plans are available to support families.
To find out more about upcoming trips or how we support students during residentials, please contact the school office.
Daventry Hill School runs a very successful Duke of Edinburgh scheme and is proud to be a D of E Licenced Centre.
This award programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities has proven to support the personal development of young people. Students access the programme from year 9 as part of their curriculum offer. The expedition is completed as an extra-curricular option and includes an overnight stay.
Students work towards the Bronze award, which has 4 sections:
The expedition element requires students to complete a walk over two days, this can be adapted to meet individual needs. They are also required to camp overnight, including pitching their own tent and cooking their own dinner.
