We aim to give the children a secure understanding of the basic mathematical skills, a solid foundation upon which they can build as they move through their education. A good mathematical knowledge is an essential skill for everyday life, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. In our early years and yellow pathway classrooms, maths skills are developed through activities such as matching, sorting, role play and number songs and games. We use developmental ladders to assess whether our pupils are ready to move on to more formal learning.
